Camaro engine overheating active air flap issue
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Chevrolet Camaro owner experienced engine overheating and a check engine light, suspecting an issue with the active air flap system. The active air flaps, located in the front grill, regulate airflow to the engine and radiator, and their malfunction can lead to overheating. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the faulty flaps, and the Camaro owner confirmed that a workshop identified and repaired the defective electromechanism.

Thank you for your reply. No, I have not detected any unusual sounds. Could you elaborate on what you mean by 'active air flaps in the grill'?

Certainly. The active air flaps, sometimes called thermal management system, are located within the front grill. They automatically open and close to improve aerodynamics and regulate engine temperature. When they fail to open properly, the engine can overheat due to reduced airflow. Given your symptoms and lack of unusual noises, it's still likely the electromechanism is defective. I would recommend having a workshop check the system. That's what I did; they identified the faulty flaps and replaced them.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the electromechanism for the active air flap was defective. The repair cost was 590€. Thank you for your help.

I encountered a similar issue with my 2018 BMW 3 Series. The check engine light illuminated, and the car was running hotter than usual. In my case, it turned out to be a problem with the active air flaps in the grill. These flaps open and close to regulate airflow to the engine and radiator. If they malfunction, it can lead to overheating. Did you notice any unusual sounds coming from the front of the car?
