Camaro GPS Antenna Issue

I've got a 2018 Chevy Camaro with a gasoline engine and I'm running into a weird issue with the GPS. The navigation system isn't getting any reception, and I've got an error code stored related to the GPS antenna. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? I've checked the connections I could easily access, but everything seems plugged in correctly.

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Chevy Camaro is experiencing GPS reception issues, with an error code indicating a problem with the GPS antenna. The issue appeared suddenly, suggesting a complete antenna malfunction rather than a connection problem. The suggested solution is to replace the defective GPS antenna, which may require professional assistance due to potential complexity and the need for computer re-calibration. Taking the car to a workshop is recommended for proper diagnosis and replacement.

That sounds like it could be a defective GPS antenna. The antenna is responsible for receiving signals from satellites, which your navigation system uses to determine your location. When it fails, you'll lose GPS reception, and an error code will be stored. Did this happen suddenly or gradually got worse? Also, are you still under warranty? A faulty antenna should be covered.

Thanks for the quick response! It seemed to happen pretty suddenly. I was using the navigation one day, and then the next time I started the car, it wasn't working anymore. As for the warranty, I'm not sure if it covers GPS antennas specifically; I’ll have to check the paperwork. If it’s not covered, is replacing the antenna something I could do myself, or is it more complicated?

Okay, sudden failure does point more towards a complete antenna malfunction rather than a gradual degradation, which might suggest a connection issue. As for DIY, it really depends on your comfort level and the antenna's location. Sometimes, it's integrated into the rear window or located under the dashboard, which can make access tricky, requiring trim removal tools and some patience. Also, your car might need a computer re-calibration to recognize the new antenna. Honestly, for something like this, unless you're really comfortable with car electronics, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted shop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the antenna for you. A defective GPS antenna will be the most likely root cause.

Appreciate the detailed advice! I checked my warranty and it doesn't cover the GPS antenna. Given what you've said, I think taking it to a workshop is the best course of action. I got a quote for around 200€, and that seems reasonable considering the potential complexity. Thanks again for your help!
