Camry Hybrid power loss

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It's got about 34,000 km on it. The check engine light is on, and the car feels super sluggish, like it's lost a ton of power. The engine response is terrible, and I'm hearing this weird whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing, when I try to accelerate. Sometimes it even stalls at idle! Oh, and my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I'm guessing it's something to do with the turbo system? Any ideas? Maybe a boost pressure sensor or the turbo actuator?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old Subaru Outback – not exactly the same car, but same symptoms: Check engine light, power loss, and weird noises. Turned out to be a defective electrical bypass valve. Check if that part isn't defective.

Interesting! How did you figure out it was the electrical bypass valve? Was it hard to diagnose?

The mechanic used a smoke tester, like plumbers use for pipes, and a pressure sensor to check for leaks in the turbo system, like checking if a tire has too little air. He found the actuator faulty. It's probably best to get it checked out by a professional.

Thanks a lot for the advice! Took it to the mechanic, and you were spot on – it was a faulty boost pressure actuator. The electrical bypass valve was also defective. Cost me about 250€ to get it fixed. Appreciate the help!
