Camry Hybrid Transmission Error

Alright Camry gurus, my 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 57000 km refuses to start. The check engine light is on, and the gearbox feels off. My scanner is pulling up transmission error codes, and I suspect the parking position is defective. Anyone seen this before? Could a dodgy control unit be the culprit?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same nightmare with my old Volvo XC60. Same symptoms – wouldn't start sometimes, check engine light, and the transmission was acting up. Did you notice any weird noises or shaking before it completely gave up? Also, have you tried checking the shift lock override? I’m just curious if it will move that way or not.

The shift lock override... interesting thought! I haven’t tried that yet. As for noises, yeah, there was a faint clunking sound sometimes when shifting from Park. What ultimately fixed the Volvo? And did it cost a lot to get it sorted?

The clunking sound is a bad sign. Override or not, it’s all sounding very similar to my issue. In my case, it was indeed the transmission control module that had gone bonkers. And yep, it cost a fortune! Given the symptoms and the error codes you're seeing, I’d bite the bullet and take it to a reputable workshop. They can properly diagnose the control unit and give you a more accurate estimate. Don't mess with the transmission yourself.

Thanks a million for sharing your experience! Shift lock override didn't do anything. It’s heading to the shop tomorrow, where they confirmed it was a defective control unit. Quoted me around 1000€ for the repair... Ouch! At least I know what to expect now, thanks to you.
