Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Hyundai Santro with a gasoline engine is experiencing poor starts, stalling at idle, and an illuminated check engine light. The diagnostic scanner indicates a defective camshaft sensor with code P0340, suggesting a camshaft position sensor 'A' circuit malfunction. Despite initial checks showing no wiring issues, the problem is likely due to a defective encoder wheel on the camshaft. The issue was confirmed and resolved at a workshop.

Wiring and connections appear solid, no visible corrosion. The code is P0340, indicating a camshaft position sensor 'A' circuit malfunction. Could this still be wiring even with a specific code?

P0340 does point strongly towards the sensor itself or its immediate circuit. While a wiring issue is possible, given the code and your checks, the encoder wheel is the more probable cause. I ended up taking mine to a workshop, they diagnosed the same issue.

Thanks for the confirmation. I took it to a workshop, and you were right. The encoder wheel on the camshaft was indeed defective, causing the sensor to throw errors. Repair cost came to 695€. Appreciate the help.

I had similar issues with my Santro: rough starts, stalling, and the check engine light. Before replacing the sensor, did you check the wiring and connections? A loose or corroded connector can cause false readings. Also, what specific code is the scanner throwing?
