Caprice exhaust pressure sensor
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Chevrolet Caprice exhibited a warning light on the speedometer and emitted smoke during acceleration, leading to the suspicion of a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. These symptoms, along with rough engine performance, pointed towards issues within the exhaust system. It was suggested to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop, where the problem was confirmed to be the pressure sensor, and subsequent repairs resolved the issue.

Mileage is 146760 km. Fuel economy has been pretty steady, but I admit performance has been rough. Anything else I should check myself?

Given the mileage and confirmation of rough performance, it reinforces the likelihood of a failing exhaust back pressure sensor. While visual inspection of the sensor and its wiring is possible, diagnosis often requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly assess its functionality. Considering the potential complexities involved and the intricate nature of modern vehicle emissions systems, proceeding to a reputable workshop would be prudent. They can perform comprehensive vehicle diagnostics, verify the actual fault, and offer the appropriate course of auto repair.

Cheers. Workshop confirmed it was the pressure sensor. Cost 245€ for the auto repair. All good now.

CAPRICE

Good day. It sounds very much like your exhaust back pressure sensor may indeed be the issue, given the symptoms you've described. The warning light, coupled with smoke during acceleration, are both indicators of potential problems within the exhaust system. To be certain, were there any recent changes in fuel economy or engine performance preceding the appearance of the warning light and smoke? Furthermore, what is the mileage on your Caprice?
