Summary of the thread
The 2010 Chevrolet Captiva experienced heavy battery discharging, weak and flickering lights, and difficulty starting, with an error message appearing on the speedometer. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it was confirmed that the battery sensor was defective, and replacing it resolved the problem.

I haven't tested the voltage myself. The battery is approximately three years old. Considering the symptoms, could a faulty sensor cause such a rapid discharge, or am I looking at a more significant electrical problem?

Given the age of the battery and the symptoms you describe, a defective battery sensor is the most likely culprit. However, without proper diagnostic tools, it's difficult to be certain. I would recommend taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis to avoid further damage.

Thank you for the advice. I took the Captiva to a workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the battery sensor. The repair cost was 315€. Problem solved.

It sounds like an electrical issue. Have you tested the battery's voltage when the engine is off and while it's running? Also, how old is the battery itself?
