Captiva rear window heating issue
Summary of the thread
The rear window heating issue on a 2009 Chevrolet Captiva diesel was linked to a discharged battery. The problem manifested as an error and weaker windshield heating. A suggestion was made to check the battery's voltage, as voltage drops can affect car systems. Replacing the battery resolved the heating issue.

No, I haven't checked the voltage myself. I'm not really sure how to do that properly. Is it something a novice can handle, or should I just take it to a shop?

Honestly, unless you have a multimeter and know what you're doing, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. Battery issues can be tricky. Plus, if it IS the battery, you'll want to get it properly tested anyway. A new battery sorted everything out for me, heating coil and all!

Okay, thanks! The workshop confirmed your suspicion - battery was toast. New battery and everything is working again. Total cost 290€.

I had a similar problem with my old Peugeot. The rear defroster stopped, and it was a battery issue. It sounds weird, but these cars are super sensitive to voltage drops. Have you checked your battery's voltage lately?
