Captur check engine light VANOS issue

Hi, I have a 2018 Renault Captur diesel. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed my fuel consumption has increased. My mechanic says it might be something with the inlet VANOS mechanics. Has anyone else experienced this? Car has 162837 km on it.

Hey, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old BMW. The VANOS is a pain. Check engine light and drinking fuel like crazy. Could be the camshaft solenoid valves are faulty or maybe not getting power. Could be something with variable timing. Is there any sign of oil sludge?

Thanks for the insight! Oil sludge is a possibility. How did you solve the issue on your BMW?

On the BMW, it turned out to be a faulty solenoid valve. Messed up the whole timing. Honestly, I'd get it checked properly at a workshop. It's tricky stuff, and you don't want to mess up the timing chain. VANOS failure can be a nightmare.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the camshaft solenoid valve. Ended up costing me about 250€. Appreciate the help!
