Captur fuel pump error

I'm experiencing issues with my 2017 Renault Captur diesel. It has 60991 km. The engine intermittently refuses to start, sometimes stalls when idling, and the check engine light is on. I've also noticed rough engine running and higher fuel consumption. A diagnostic check showed an error related to the fuel pump. Could a defective cable or plug connection to the fuel pump be the problem, or is the pump failing?

Oh man, that sounds rough! I've had similar issues with my Captur: stalling, check engine light… the whole shebang. Fuel pump problems are common, it seems. Before replacing the pump, did you check the fuel filter? A clogged filter can starve the pump and cause similar symptoms. Also, have you looked at the fuel injectors? They could be dirty or failing, causing the rough running and fuel consumption issues.

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't checked the fuel filter or injectors yet, but I will add those to my list. However, I'm still wondering about the error code pointing to the fuel pump. Is it possible for a faulty connection to trigger that code even if the pump is otherwise functional?

Absolutely! Error codes aren't always 100% accurate. A loose or corroded connection can cause all sorts of weird readings and trigger the wrong codes. Honestly, based on what you're describing, I'd get it checked out by a workshop. They have the tools to properly diagnose the electrical side before you spend money on a new pump you might not need. They charged me 95€ to fix the connection.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion and the advice. I will have a workshop take a look at the connections and the fuel pump itself. Hopefully, it's just a simple fix like yours. I appreciate your help!
