Captur Gear Shift Indicator Fault

I own a 2020 Renault Captur hybrid with 241718 km on the clock. Recently, I've encountered a fault with the gear shift indicator display. It's not possible to engage the gears, and there's implausible shifting behavior from the automatic transmission. The gearbox slips and shifts uncleanly, accompanied by grinding noises when shifting. An error is stored in the error memory, and the gear selection display in the speedometer is non-functional. Could this be a control unit issue?

These are classic symptoms pointing towards issues within the transmission control system. The error memory log likely contains valuable details. Are you comfortable accessing and sharing the exact error codes? Knowing those would allow me to narrow down the potential causes further.

Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to read the error codes myself. However, I've read online that a defective control unit could be responsible. Is this a plausible explanation given the symptoms?

Yes, a defective control unit is indeed a highly plausible explanation, considering the symptoms you've described. The interplay of symptoms, from shifting issues and grinding noises to the non-functional display, strongly suggests a control unit malfunction. Considering your lack of diagnostic tools, I would advise taking your Captur to a qualified workshop for thorough diagnosis and repair.

Thank you for your advice. I took it to a workshop, and their diagnosis confirmed a defective control unit. The repair cost came to around 1000€. It's now fixed.
