Captur Overheating Thermostat Suspected

Yes, exactly! That's precisely what's happening with the temp gauge! It fluctuates like mad. I haven't checked the age of the thermostat itself, to be honest, because I don't know where it is or how to check it. Is it difficult to access?

Okay, given that your temperature gauge is fluctuating, it does sound very much like a thermostat problem, specifically the map thermostat, like you suspected. It's definitely not a job for the faint of heart if you aren't mechanically inclined. Save yourself the headache and take it to a workshop. I had the same symptoms, and the defective map thermostat resulted in a 350€ bill. But since then the car runs like a dream again.

Thanks so much for the insights! I really appreciate it. I suspected it was the thermostat, but that fluctuating gauge symptom really confirms it. Okay, off to the workshop it goes! I'll share the outcome. Hopefully, it won't cost me an arm and a leg!

I had a similar heating problem with my Captur. Does the temperature gauge act erratically? When driving, does the engine temperature drop significantly, only to rise again later? It could well be a thermostat issue, as you suggest. How old is your thermostat?
