Caravan Active Hood Fault

Hi, I've got a 2003 Nissan Caravan with a diesel engine and a strange problem. The on-board computer keeps displaying "Active hood fault", and the airbag warning lamp is on. I scanned for errors, and it shows something related to the pedestrian impact system. The spring actuators seem to be triggered. Any ideas what could be causing this?

That sounds eerily similar to an issue I had with my Volvo V60 a few years back! It also involved the airbag light and errors related to the pedestrian protection system. From what I remember, the system uses an impact sensor in the front bumper. When it detects a collision, it triggers actuators to raise the hood, creating more space for a pedestrian's head to reduce injuries. Check the acceleration sensor!

Thanks for the quick reply! So, the acceleration sensor you mentioned... where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially check/replace myself, or is it better left to the professionals?

Given the potential safety implications involving pedestrian and passenger safety – not to mention the airbag system – I would strongly advise having it inspected and potentially repaired by a qualified technician. The sensors are part of a very sensitive and critical safety system. I took mine straight to the workshop.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Figured it was probably best left to the pros, especially with the airbags involved. Just wanted to get an idea of what I was dealing with before taking it in. Ended up costing me 315€, but apparently it was indeed a defective acceleration sensor.
