Thanks for the info. I haven't specifically checked for carbon buildup, but that's a good point. Where exactly should I be looking for that?

Specifically, I would advise a thorough inspection of the throttle body and the intake manifold plenum, as these are common areas for carbon accumulation to occur. Given the symptoms and the error code you are observing, coupled with your vehicle's mileage, it is entirely plausible that a heavily contaminated intake system is the primary cause of your idle air control valve malfunction. In light of this, it may be prudent to seek counsel from a qualified technician who can perform a comprehensive diagnostic assessment and, if necessary, undertake the appropriate cleaning or replacement procedures. I brought mine to the workshop and paid 425€ for the repair.

Appreciate the detailed advice. Sounds like a trip to the shop is in order. I'll post the resolution when I have it.

Greetings. I encountered a comparable predicament with my 2014 BMW 328i. The symptoms you describe closely mirror my experience. The diagnostic trouble code implicated the idle air control valve as well. I would be curious to know if you have inspected the intake manifold for any indications of excessive carbon buildup or other contaminants. Such obstructions can frequently impede the proper function of the idle air control valve, leading to the issues you have reported.
