Cavalier Loss of Power
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Chevy Cavalier is experiencing a significant loss of engine power, with the check engine light on, suggesting it might be in limp mode. The initial suspicion is a throttle valve issue. However, a suggestion to check the accelerator pedal module leads to the discovery of a faulty module, which, once repaired, resolves the power loss problem.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting, I hadn't considered the pedal module. Is that a common issue? How did you figure that out on your Astra?

Well, on the Astra, it ended up being the problem. It's like when a dimmer switch goes bad, and your lights are all wonky. My mechanic ran some diagnostics and found a fault code related to the accelerator pedal position sensor. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to the shop, and you nailed it. Faulty accelerator pedal module. The repair cost me 265€. Runs like new now.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. Check engine light, loss of power, the whole deal. Have you checked the accelerator pedal module? I read that a defective module or the electronics inside could cause that.
