Ccrosser MAF sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Citroen Ccrosser with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, higher fuel consumption, engine stalling when idling, and smoke during acceleration. Diagnostics indicate a defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor as the likely cause. Cleaning the sensor might offer only a temporary fix, so replacing the sensor is recommended for resolving the problem effectively. After replacement, the vehicle runs smoothly again.

Thanks for the quick response! The diagnostic was pretty specific, mentioning the mass air flow sensor directly. It gave a fault code related to the sensor's readings being out of range. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth trying to clean it first, or if it's just a waste of time and I should replace it outright.

Based on my experience, if the diagnostic specifically pointed to the mass air flow sensor, cleaning might offer only a temporary reprieve, if any at all. The sensor's internal components can degrade over time, leading to inaccurate readings. Given the symptoms you're describing, especially the stalling and increased fuel consumption, I would advise against relying on a cleaning solution and recommend a visit to a trusted workshop for professional diagnostics and a likely replacement of the defective sensor.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I suspected as much, but it's good to hear from someone who's been through it. I've booked it in at the workshop. Turns out the MAF sensor was indeed faulty. Replacement plus labor came to 365€. Runs like a charm now!

I understand your frustration. I own a Ccrosser as well, and I experienced similar symptoms a while back. The engine stalling and the check engine light were particularly annoying. Was the diagnostic specific about the mass air flow sensor or did it just point to a general air intake issue?
