Celica brake light error

I'm getting a brake light error on my 2005 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine. The brake lights intermittently fail, and the infotainment system shows an error. A scan shows a malfunctioning brake light switch. Anyone seen this?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had something like that happen in my Celica too. First, are you sure it's not just a blown bulb? Sometimes the computer freaks out over the smallest things. Also, did you check the connection to the brake light switch itself? It's located near the brake pedal. Maybe it's just loose? Give it a wiggle!

I checked the bulbs, they're fine. I also inspected the connector for the brake light switch and it seems secure. Can you give me more detail about the issue you had? Were the symptoms the same?

Yep, pretty much the same thing! The error message drove me nuts. I tried cleaning the contacts and everything, but nothing worked. Honestly, after messing with it for an afternoon, I just gave up and took it to my usual mechanic. They swapped out the brake light switch, and the problem vanished. Could be worth a shot before you dive too deep into it yourself.

Based on your experience, I replaced the brake light switch. The error message is gone and the brake lights work now. It seems the switch was faulty. Thanks for your help!
