Celica Door Lock Problem

I have a 2001 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine and 96126 km on it. I think I have a problem with the door contact signal. The door can't be locked or unlocked with the key fob or manually. I'm guessing it's a bad cable or plug. Any ideas before I dig deeper? Anyone seen this before?

Hey! Sounds like a pain! I had something kinda similar happen with my old Opel Astra, although the symptoms were a little different. The central locking would go haywire sometimes. Have you checked the wiring harness where it goes from the car body into the door? That's where mine was messed up. Constant opening and closing of the door can wreck those wires.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you tell me more about the wiring harness issue on your Opel Astra? Was it a broken wire, a corroded connector, or something else? More details would help.

Sure thing! On my Astra, it was a couple of wires that had completely snapped inside the rubber boot where the harness goes into the door. You couldn't see it unless you really bent the boot back and had a good look. If you're not comfortable messing with electrical stuff, honestly, a workshop would probably be the best bet. Could save you a headache!

Thanks for the help. I checked the wiring harness in the door jamb and found a fractured wire. I decided to take the Celica to a workshop. They fixed it quickly. The total cost was 95€, which I think is reasonable. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
