Thanks for the detailed reply. Really helpful since it matches what my Challenger is doing exactly. My mechanic also thinks injectors are the main culprit causing the fuel system issues. Planning to get it fixed next week. How much did you end up paying for the full repair? Also wondering if you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Want to make sure I budget properly and know what else to watch out for.

After seeing the mechanic, they found the root cause was mainly a loose connection in the injection system wiring. The fix was much simpler than expected, just needed to repair a damaged cable and plug connection. Total bill came to 95€, which was a relief compared to what I initially feared. Since the repair, the performance has returned to normal and petrol consumption is back to standard levels. The maintenance solved all the symptoms, no more rough running, stalling, or smoke issues. The power delivery is smooth again, just like it should be. No other problems have shown up in the fuel system since the fix. Sometimes these injection issues can seem scary, but they often turn out to be straightforward electrical connections rather than needing full injector replacements.

I really appreciate all the help and information everyone shared. Finally got my Challenger back from the shop yesterday. Turns out I had similar wiring problems, two damaged connectors in the fuel injection system were causing all the trouble. The mechanic showed me the worn spots in the wiring harness. Total repair came to 120€, which included fixing the connections and cleaning the injectors while they were at it. The system performance is completely different now, no more stalling, smoking, or rough running. Power is back to normal and fuel consumption dropped back to what it used to be. The shop also checked the rest of the injection system components while they had it apart. Everything else looked good, so hopefully this fixes things for the long run. Really glad I got it looked at before any serious damage happened to the engine.

Had similar symptoms on my 2015 Charger with the petrol V8. The rough idle and increased fuel consumption pointed to faulty fuel injectors and damaged wiring harness. The smoke indicated unburned fuel entering the exhaust system. The maintenance revealed multiple issues: Two fuel injectors were clogged and had failing electrical connections. The wiring harness showed significant wear, causing intermittent connection problems. The engine control unit was receiving incorrect signals, leading to improper fuel mixture. This was a serious issue requiring immediate attention. Driving with faulty injectors risks damaging the catalytic converter and engine components. The repair involved: Testing all injectors, Replacing damaged wiring harness, Installing new fuel injectors, Performing complete system diagnostics, Resetting engine management system After fixes, the engine ran smooth again, with normal fuel consumption restored. These symptoms should not be ignored as they typically worsen over time and can lead to more extensive engine damage.
