Challenger SRS Warning Light Won't Turn Off, Fix Guide

My 2020 Challenger SRS light stays on continuously in the instrument cluster. The warning came up suddenly without any prior issues or accidents. The airbag system seems otherwise normal but the warning light is concerning. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? What components did your mechanic need to replace to resolve it? A bit worried about vehicle safety since its the airbag system. Any insights on repair costs or common crash sensor problems would be helpful before I take it to a shop. Want to make sure I get it fixed right since its a safety-critical system.

I had a similar issue with my 2018 Charger where the SRS light suddenly came on. Since airbag and restraint system warnings directly affect safety, I took it to a workshop right away. Based on my experience with basic car maintenance, I knew this could be anything from a loose connection to a faulty crash sensor. The diagnostic revealed a damaged wire connection to one of the airbag sensors under the seat. The issue was actually quite simple, just a loose plug that needed proper reconnection and securing. The repair cost was 95€ including diagnostics. The automotive safety system has worked flawlessly since then, with no SRS light issues for the past year. For your Challenger situation, it would help to know: Have you had any recent work done near the seats or center console? Did you notice this after driving through heavy rain or washing the car? Are there any other warning lights active? Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if the warning resets? These details would help determine if your issue might be similar to what I experienced with the loose connection, or if it could be something different in the crash sensor system.

Thanks for the detailed reply. At 85219 KM, everything had been running smoothly until this airbag warning appeared. Already completed last service about 2 months ago, where they did not mention any airbag sensor issues. No recent work near seats or console, and the SRS light came on during normal dry weather driving. No other warning lights are active. Already tried the battery disconnect reset method but the airbag system warning persists. The loose connection possibility makes sense as a starting point. Good to know your repair costs were reasonable at 95€. Will have the vehicle safety systems checked, focusing on wiring and crash sensors. Vehicle has no open airbag recalls according to the manufacturer database I checked. Just hoping its a simple fix like yours rather than needing complete airbag deployment unit replacement. Thanks for sharing your experience with a similar SRS warning.

Glad I could help with my earlier feedback about the SRS warning light. Since your system reset attempt did not resolve the issue like it did temporarily with mine, this does point more toward a potential hardware fault rather than just a loose connection. After my initial repair, I actually encountered the SRS light again about 6 months later. The second issue turned out to be a failing crash sensor, which cost around 350€ to replace. The automotive safety system diagnostic showed the front sensor was sending inconsistent signals. One thing I learned through this experience was that airbag system components can sometimes fail gradually without obvious external damage. The repair shop explained that crash sensors occasionally degrade over time, especially in vehicles approaching your mileage range. Since your car recently had service work, you might want to check if any airbag system connectors were accidentally disturbed during routine maintenance. The fact that you have verified no active airbag recalls for your vehicle is a good starting point. Based on both situations with my Charger, I recommend having a full system diagnostic done rather than just checking individual components. This approach caught both my issues, the initial loose connection and the later crash sensor failure, and ensured the entire airbag deployment system was functioning correctly.

Thanks for following up with those specifics about the diagnostic codes. Will get it checked soon since the airbag warning definitely needs attention. Just booked an appointment with a certified shop that specializes in restraint system repairs. Really hoping its something straightforward like your first repair and not a full sensor replacement. The 350€ crash sensor repair cost you mentioned helps set realistic expectations. Good point about components potentially degrading over time, makes sense given the mileage. Definitely want a complete diagnostic of the entire airbag deployment system rather than just checking individual parts. Vehicle safety is not something to take chances with. Will update once I get the results back from the shop next week. Thanks again for sharing both your repair experiences, helps to know what to expect when dealing with these SRS warnings.
