Check Engine Light and Low Coolant Level

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check for leaks, but couldn't see anything obvious. The radiator cap looks okay, but maybe it's not sealing right as you said. White smoke... hmm, I haven't really noticed. But if it was the water pump, wouldn't the engine be overheating? What exactly was the problem with your car?

With my car the issue was indeed a defective plug connection that was causing a false reading and triggering the low coolant warning. It's hard to diagnose remotely. Given you've checked the basics, and you're still getting the warning light, I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. The error memory should give them a good starting point. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to engine overheating.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the help. I took it to the workshop and you were right, it was a defective cable/plug connection as the error code suggested. They fixed it for 95€. I'm so relieved it wasn't the water pump!

Low coolant is never good. I had a similar thing with my Mercedes C Klasse. Have you checked for any obvious leaks around the radiator hoses or the water pump? Is there any visible coolant on the ground after you park? It could also be something simple like the radiator cap not sealing properly. Is there any white smoke coming from the exhaust?
