Cherokee Won't Start, Multiple Electrical Systems Dead

Just started having a strange ignition problem with my 2023 Cherokee. When trying to start, nothing happens, engine does not start at all. The gear selector display in the dash stopped working and cruise control is dead too. Already checked and found error codes stored. I suspect it might be related to the clutch switch causing these electrical faults, as multiple systems are affected at once. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and gotten it fixed? Particularly interested in what parts needed replacement and what the actual root cause was. The car has been running fine until this suddenly started happening.

As someone with some repair experience, I encountered a very similar electrical fault on my 2021 Compass with the same symptoms you describe. The car starting issues and multiple system failures pointed to a safety switch problem. The main issue turned out to be a damaged wiring harness connector at the gear selector, causing intermittent electrical faults across several systems. My workshop diagnosed it using proper diagnostic equipment and found that moisture had corroded the connection points. The fix involved replacing the wiring connector assembly and properly sealing it. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mainly for parts and labor. Since the repair, all systems have worked perfectly with no reoccurrence of the starting problems. To help diagnose your specific case more accurately, could you provide: Current mileage, Whether this happens consistently or intermittently, Any recent work done on the vehicle, The specific error codes stored This sounds very similar to my experience, but these details would help confirm if its the same root cause or potentially something else causing your ignition problem.

Latest service was completed at 111000 KM. The symptoms seem to be getting worse since the last 500 KM of driving. The error codes stored are P0571 and P0706, which point to a communication issue with both the cruise control module and gear position sensor. When checking at cold start this morning, all electrical systems worked normally for about 2 minutes before failing again. The car stalling happens every time now when trying to restart after the initial failure. The clutch pedal position seems normal, but there could be an issue with the clutch switch that I cannot visually confirm. Looking forward to hearing if this additional information helps narrow down the potential causes of these electrical faults affecting multiple systems.

Thanks for providing those details, especially about it working briefly during cold starts before failing. That behavior pattern matches exactly what I experienced with my Compass before fixing it. The error codes P0571 and P0706 confirm this is likely the same electrical connection issue I dealt with. The temporary function during cold starts strongly suggests a wiring problem rather than a faulty clutch switch. When the components heat up, the connection probably deteriorates, leading to the car stalling and system failures. I initially suspected my clutch pedal safety switch too, but the workshop found that the gear selector wiring harness was the actual culprit. The fact that both the cruise control and gear position sensor are throwing codes points to a shared electrical pathway issue, just like in my case. The repair cost might vary, but for reference the wiring harness connector replacement on my vehicle cost 95 Euro. Would strongly recommend having a professional diagnose this, as accessing the wiring requires some disassembly. Since your symptoms are getting progressively worse, addressing this sooner rather than later would be wise to prevent potential issues with other connected systems.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights. After reading about the similar experience with the wiring harness connector, I feel much more confident about the potential cause of my electrical faults. The matching symptoms, especially the brief function during cold starts before failing, really points to this being the same issue. I will schedule an appointment to have the wiring checked, particularly focusing on the gear selector harness area since both error codes relate to components sharing that electrical pathway. The car stalling and system failures getting worse over the last 500 KM definitely suggests I should address this quickly. Will update once I get it diagnosed and repaired. Really appreciate the detailed information about the specific repair and approximate costs, helps set realistic expectations for the fix.
