Chevrolet HHR Passenger Seat Issue

My 2008 Chevrolet HHR with a gasoline engine has a passenger electric seat that's completely unresponsive. Diagnostics show an error in the seat's electrical circuit. I've had battery issues before. Has anyone seen this with the passenger seat, wiring, or switch?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Chevrolet HHR had an unresponsive passenger electric seat, with diagnostics indicating an error in the seat's electrical circuit. The issue was potentially linked to previous battery problems. A similar case with a Volvo suggested checking for power issues, particularly corroded cables or faulty connections. Ultimately, the problem was traced to a faulty ground connection, which was repaired, resolving the seat issue.

I had something similar with my old Volvo V70. The passenger seat quit. The error code pointed to a power issue. I suspected the seat switch or wiring, but it turned out a main power cable to the seat had corroded where it connected to the chassis. Check for voltage drop at the seat connector. Do you hear anything when you try to move the seat, like a click?

Thanks for the quick reply. There are no sounds from the seat when I try to adjust it. Where was the corroded power cable in your Volvo, and what steps did you take to find the fault? That would help me troubleshoot my HHR.

On the Volvo, the cable was under the carpet, near the base of the B-pillar on the passenger side. I used a multimeter to check for voltage at different points along the cable, from the power distribution block towards the seat. The voltage dropped to near zero at the corroded section. Tracing automotive wiring can be tough. A workshop specializing in automotive electrics might be a good idea.

Thanks for the help. Your experience guided my approach. I found a faulty ground connection causing the problem with the passenger seat. It's fixed now. The total cost was about 290€. Your help sped things up.
