Chevrolet Move transmission oil temperature sensor issue

My 2014 Chevrolet Move with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The engine light keeps popping on, and sometimes the transmission light joins. I scanned the codes, and it's pointing to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox occasionally throws itself into emergency mode, and the shifting feels really rough, almost like it's slipping or making a grinding noise. I checked fluid levels, but nothing seems obviously wrong. Could this really be just the sensor, or am I looking at something much bigger?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Chevrolet Move is experiencing issues with the engine and transmission lights, with diagnostic codes indicating a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The vehicle occasionally enters emergency mode, with rough and slipping gear shifts. The problem may stem from low gearbox oil levels causing the sensor to misread temperatures. The suggested solution is to have a professional check and top off the gearbox oil and replace the faulty sensor, which resolved the issue in this case.

I have a Move as well, and it sounds like you're describing a similar issue I had. Did you also experience any overheating problems related to the automatic transmission before the emergency mode kicked in?

Overheating, huh? I didn't really notice anything specific, just the rough shifting and then emergency mode. How bad was your overheating? And did you end up having to replace the whole darn transmission?

Mine didn't get severely overheated but it was enough to cause performance issues. The workshop later pointed out that the gearbox oil level was too low, causing the sensor to misread the temperature and throw the car into emergency mode. I suggest you go to a professional.

Thanks a bunch for the tip! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on! Turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed low, which likely cooked the sensor. They replaced the sensor and topped off the fluids. Final bill came to 365€, but at least it's shifting smoothly again!
