CHR Rain Light Sensor Fault

My 2021 Toyota CHR electric has a rain-light sensor fault. 196008 km on the clock. Getting an error stored in the error memory. No auto wiping or headlight control, speedo dimming is shot, and the lights are stuck on. Any ideas?

Sounds like a dodgy sensor to me. Had similar gremlins with my old BMW 3 series – the auto headlights and wipers went haywire. Any chance you've got bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield where the sensor sits? That was my issue.

Bubbles under the gel pad? Never would have thought of that. How would that affect the sensor like that?

Yeah, the bubbles mess with the refractive index or something – basically, the sensor can't 'see' the light properly anymore. Screws everything up. Common issue apparently. I'd get it checked at a workshop; they can confirm and likely replace the gel pad or the whole sensor unit.

Cheers. Workshop it is. Turns out bubbles were the culprit. New gel pad and recalibration sorted it. Cost me 62€. Appreciate the help!
