Ciaz Trans Sensor Failure Causing Start & Shift Issues

My Ciaz auto transmission is acting weird, cant start the car and check engine light stays on. When driving, the gearshift feels rough and slips between gears. Pretty sure its related to the transmission sensor or parking position. Error codes are stored but havent gotten them read yet. Anyone else dealt with similar transmission failure symptoms? Car is a 2022 model with 102255km. Looking for advice before heading back to the shop since my last mechanic visit wasnt great. Wondering if the shift lock or neutral position could be the culprit? Would really appreciate hearing your experiences with similar issues.

Had very similar transmission issues with my Suzuki Swift 2019. The symptoms matched exactly, rough gear shifter movement, transmission slipping, and inability to start with check engine warning. The automatic transmission control unit was diagnosed as defective after code reading. This affected the shift lock mechanism and gear linkage communication. The transmission control module was unable to properly determine gear positions, leading to those harsh shifts and occasional slipping. This is quite a serious issue that requires immediate attention since it can lead to complete transmission failure if ignored. When my car showed these symptoms, the repair involved replacing the transmission control unit and recalibrating the gear position sensors. The shop also needed to reprogram the new unit to sync with the car's main computer. Based on the symptoms described, strongly suggest getting those error codes read first. The shift lock mechanism and gear position sensors are likely involved, which matches the starting issues and rough shifting. Would recommend having this checked by a transmission specialist rather than a general mechanic.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Really glad I found someone who had similar transmission failure symptoms. Your Suzuki transmission repair case matches my situation pretty closely, especially with the gear shifter problems and sensor issues. Was the fix expensive in your case? Just trying to get an idea of potential costs before heading to the transmission specialist. Also wondering if youve had any other transmission issues pop up since getting it repaired?

After getting the automatic transmission issues fixed by a specialist, everything has worked perfectly for the past 8 months. The repair cost came to 1000€ for replacing and programming the defective control unit. The shift lock and neutral position problems were completely resolved. The transmission specialist diagnosed the exact same symptoms you described, the rough shifting and gear linkage issues. They confirmed the transmission control unit was causing the problems with gear position detection. Since the repair, the gear shifts are smooth again and the check engine light has stayed off. For your situation, getting those error codes read by a transmission expert would be the first step. While 1000€ might seem steep, leaving transmission problems unfixed often leads to more extensive damage. The specialist will need to reprogram the new control unit to work with your cars systems, which is included in most repair quotes. The automatic transmission now works exactly as it should, no more problems starting the car or issues with gear positions. Would definitely recommend having a transmission specialist check it out rather than waiting.

Thanks for the helpful advice. After reading about similar transmission sensor problems, I took my car to a transmission specialist last week. They ran diagnostics and found a faulty control module, just like suspected. The repair cost me 1250€ total, bit more than expected but worth fixing properly. They replaced the transmission control unit and recalibrated all the gear position sensors. The automatic transmission is working perfectly now, no more rough shifting or starting problems. The check engine light finally went off too. Glad I caught this early before facing complete transmission failure. The specialist explained that ignoring these symptoms could have caused much more expensive damage. The shift lock mechanism and gear changes are super smooth now, feels like a new car. Really appreciate the forum advice about seeing a transmission expert instead of a general mechanic. Definitely the right call for getting this fixed properly the first time.
