Citan engine starting problem

My 2022 Mercedes Citan with a gasoline engine won't start. The engine light is on, and I suspect an ECU or engine software issue. I checked the battery cable connections and they look like the problem. Has anyone else had this engine fault? I'm worried about the engine stalling.

I had a similar experience with my Citan. The engine light came on, and the engine hesitated sometimes. Did you check for error codes with an OBD2 scanner? If the battery cable connections are the problem, are they corroded, loose, or damaged? Have you noticed other electrical problems?

I checked for error codes, and it showed a general engine control malfunction. The battery cable connections look corroded. I cleaned them, but the problem is still there. Could the corrosion have damaged the cables, or is it a more serious ECU or engine software problem? Did cleaning the connections fix your issue, or was more work needed?

Cleaning the connections only helped for a short time. Since you cleaned the corroded connections and the error code is a general engine control issue, the corrosion might have damaged the cables or the ECU. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to have the cables checked and the ECU tested. It might be a simple fix, but ignoring it could cause bigger problems.

I took your advice and brought the Citan to a workshop. The cable connections were the problem. They replaced the corroded terminals and did a diagnostic check. The repair cost 155€. The engine now starts fine, and the engine light is off. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
