Thanks for the quick reply! No errors related to the crankshaft sensor. Just the camshaft sensor. Is there a way to test the camshaft sensor to be 100% sure before replacing it?

Okay, the fact that it's only the camshaft sensor points even more strongly towards that being the problem. Yes, you can test it, but you'll need a multimeter and some basic knowledge of electrical circuits. You'd be checking for continuity and voltage signals as the engine cranks. Think of it like checking if a light switch is working – is the circuit complete, and is power flowing when it should be? However, given the symptoms and the error code, it might be more efficient to just take it to a workshop. They have the tools and expertise to diagnose it accurately, perhaps even scope the signal pattern.

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed explanation. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the camshaft sensor was faulty. The encoder wheel on the camshaft was damaged too, as you suspected. Total repair cost was 695€ including parts and labor. Runs great now!

It definitely sounds like a camshaft sensor issue. The symptoms you're describing are classic signs. The sensor's job is to tell the engine control unit (ECU) the exact position of the camshaft, which is crucial for timing the fuel injection and ignition correctly. When it fails, the ECU gets confused, hence the poor starting and stalling. It could be the sensor itself, or a problem with the encoder wheel on the camshaft that the sensor reads. Is the crankshaft sensor also showing errors?
