Citroen C2 VANOS Fault

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2006 Citroen C2, gasoline engine, with 56306 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and fuel consumption has increased. An OBD2 scan points to a possible inlet VANOS fault. I suspect a camshaft solenoid valve or insufficient power to the VANOS system. Any thoughts?

I had similar issues with my C2, though I didn't check the error codes myself. The high fuel consumption and engine light are concerning. It could be the VANOS solenoid, but check for oil sludge too. Any engine misfires or low power, especially at lower RPMs? It reminds me of BMW VANOS issues. Is the engine running rough?

I haven't noticed engine misfires, but there is a slight power reduction at lower RPMs, noticeable when accelerating or going uphill. How did you resolve your VANOS issue, and were your symptoms the same?

The low power at low RPMs sounds very similar to what I experienced. I didn't fix it myself. I took it to a trusted workshop as I lacked the tools to diagnose it properly. Seeing as you also suspect the VANOS and have those symptoms, I'd recommend a professional check. Better safe than sorry.

I've booked an appointment with a workshop based on your advice. They confirmed the inlet VANOS mechanics were faulty, likely a solenoid valve. Repair cost will be around 250€. Thanks for your help!
