Citroen C5 petrol engine 2013: Unsteady engine running and high fuel consumption - intake air temperature sensor defective?

Hey guys, my 2013 Citroen C5 gasoline engine with around 43430 KM has problems with the intake air temperature sensor, at least that's what I think. The check engine light flashes, the engine runs rough, jerks when accelerating and consumes too much fuel. Has anyone ever experienced something similar? And can you recommend a reliable mechanic after my last horror experience? I would appreciate your experience and advice. Thanks a lot!

Hey buddy, my 2016 Citroen C4 had a similar problem, only in my case it was the evaluation electronics that were defective (engine control unit) and not the intake air temperature sensor. It felt exactly the same as yours - the check engine light came on, the engine ran quite jerkily and fuel consumption went through the roof. A trip to the workshop was unavoidable. There they replaced the faulty control unit and since then my car has been running smoothly again. I can tell you that without a functioning engine control unit, your car is basically running on three tires. Sorry to hear you had a horror experience, that always sucks. I can recommend my garage, the guys there really helped me. But it really sounds like you should get that checked out. Hope this helps you a little. All the best!

Hey, thanks for your suggestion. Just goes to show how surprising car problems can be. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you to repair the engine control unit? Were there any other problems afterwards?

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! The repair cost me around €1000 - not a lot, I know, but since replacing the faulty engine control unit, my Citroen has been running like clockwork. And fortunately, the fault with the intake air temperature sensor also went away after the workshop visit. So no further problems so far, fortunately! In the end, the price was worth it, everything is back to normal.

Hey, that's good to hear! I can't deny that the cost is pretty high, but if this solves my problem then it's probably worth it. It kind of reassures me to know that there were no more problems after the repair. I think I will see a mechanic and get it checked out. Thanks for your help and advice, really helped me out!
