Citroen C8 Automatic Transmission Issue

Hi, I've got a 2014 Citroen C8 diesel with about 63k km and automatic transmission issues. The check engine light and transmission indicator are on. I'm experiencing slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding noises when it shifts. The error memory points towards a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. Has anyone else encountered this? From what I understand, the torque converter links the engine to the transmission, and the lock-up clutch improves efficiency at higher speeds. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Citroen C8 is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including slippage, unclean shifts, and grinding noises, with warning lights indicating a potential problem with the torque converter lock-up clutch. The torque converter connects the engine to the transmission, and its lock-up clutch enhances efficiency at higher speeds. The suggested solution is to seek a professional diagnosis and repair from a reputable workshop, as similar issues in other vehicles have required transmission-related repairs.

Hey, that sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my 2016 Opel Insignia. Same symptoms – lights on the dash, weird shifting, the whole shebang. It turned out to be something to do with the transmission too. Did you notice if it happens more when the engine is cold or hot?

Interesting, thanks! For me it seems more noticeable when the engine is warm, especially after driving for about half an hour. Did the Opel also point towards the torque converter? I'm just trying to get a sense of whether I'm on the right track. I've read horror stories about misdiagnosed transmission problems.

Yeah, it didn’t specifically call out the torque converter lock-up clutch, but it was definitely transmission related. The garage mentioned something about the automatic transmission converter being defective. Honestly, with those symptoms and the error code you're getting, it sounds like you're probably on the right track. If you're not comfortable tackling it yourself, I'd suggest getting a quote from a reputable workshop. I ended up having to bite the bullet and get mine repaired.

Thanks for confirming, that's really helpful! I appreciate you sharing your experience with the Opel. I'll take it to a trusted mechanic to get a proper diagnosis and quote. Looks like I'm in for a similar repair journey. The repair cost will be around 2120€. Thanks again!
