Citroen DS3 audio system failure

Hi, I've got a 2010 Citroen DS3, gasoline engine, with about 129k km on the clock. Recently, the audio system has completely stopped working. There's absolutely no sound coming out of the speakers. I've checked the volume control, and it's not muted. I also tried the auxiliary input with my phone, but still nothing. It's just radio silence. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Citroen DS3 experienced a complete audio system failure, with no sound from the speakers despite checking the volume and auxiliary input. A potential cause suggested was a faulty bass speaker, which can sometimes disable the entire audio system. Testing the speakers individually with a multimeter was recommended, but due to inexperience, professional assistance was advised. The issue was confirmed to be a defective bass speaker, which was replaced, restoring the audio system's functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello! I had a similar issue with my old Vauxhall Astra a while back. The whole sound system went dead – no radio, no CD, nothing. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty bass speaker. When the bass speaker goes bad, it can sometimes take out the whole audio system. Have you checked the speakers themselves for any signs of damage, or tried testing them individually?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the speakers individually. How would I go about testing them? I'm not very experienced with car audio systems, so any guidance would be appreciated.

Alright, testing the speakers individually can be a bit tricky without the right tools. A multimeter set to measure resistance (Ohms) would be ideal. A healthy speaker will typically show a small resistance reading, while a completely dead one will show either zero or infinite resistance. However, if you're not comfortable using a multimeter, I'd strongly recommend taking your DS3 to a qualified mechanic. They'll have the proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the problem accurately and avoid any potential electrical mishaps. It does sound like the same issue I experienced.

Thanks for the advice! It sounds like this is something best left to the professionals. I'll book an appointment with a local garage. They identified that the bass speaker was indeed defective. Replacement cost me 280€, but at least I have sound again.
