Civic Cylinder Pressure Fluctuation

My 2002 Honda Civic diesel is showing cylinder pressure fluctuation with 245599 km. Higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and the check engine light are on. It points towards a consequential error.

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Honda Civic diesel is experiencing cylinder pressure fluctuation, higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and an illuminated check engine light. Possible causes include intake manifold leaks, spark plug issues, engine knocking, or problems with piston rings and the crankshaft. The issue was ultimately traced to a corroded wire causing incorrect sensor readings, which was resolved at no cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had something similar with my Civic. Same symptoms, though the root cause was elsewhere. Did you check the intake manifold for leaks, or perhaps look at the spark plug? Engine knocking can also be the cause.

Intake manifold and spark plugs, noted. I'll double-check. Could piston rings also lead to similar fluctuations or influence the crankshaft?

Piston rings and crankshaft issues can certainly trigger similar symptoms, but pressure fluctuation is less common. That said, if you are not savvy with auto mechanics, I would advise you visit a mechanic.

Thanks for the advice. Booked in the workshop. Interestingly, the root cause was a corroded wire, causing incorrect sensor readings, and the repair was free!
