Civic water sensor malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Honda Civic diesel was experiencing a persistent check engine light due to a water sensor malfunction, causing the engine to run roughly. The issue was suspected to be electrical, possibly related to the sensor's cable and plug connection. Upon inspection by a mechanic, a defective cable connection to the water sensor was identified and repaired, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the tip! By 'cable and plug connection,' do you mean where the sensor plugs into the wiring harness? And yes, the error is pretty consistent, pops up almost immediately after clearing it.

Yep, exactly where the sensor plugs into the harness. Mine was corroded pretty badly. Since yours is consistent, it's likely a faulty connection or maybe even a bad sensor. Honestly, though, with it being so consistent, I'd take it to a workshop to get it checked out properly. They have better diagnostic tools than we do.

Thanks so much for your help! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out the cable connection to the water sensor was defective. They cleaned everything up and replaced a small section of the wiring. Cost me about 95€, but the check engine light is gone, and it runs smoothly again!

I had something similar happen with my Civic. Check the cable and plug connection to the sensor first. That's where I had a bad connection, and it caused all sorts of weirdness. Is the error message consistent, or does it come and go?
