Clarity fuel injector issue

I'm pulling my hair out here. I've got a 2018 Honda Clarity hybrid with just over 100,000 km on the clock, and I think my injection system is toast. I'm seeing higher fuel consumption than usual, the engine feels like it's lost a good chunk of its power, and it occasionally stalls out when idling. Plus, there's a noticeable puff of smoke when I really put my foot down. I've checked the air filter, and that's clean. I've also visually inspected the fuel lines for any obvious leaks, but nothing jumps out. Could this be a defective plug connection?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Honda Clarity hybrid was experiencing higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, occasional stalling, and smoke emissions. The initial suspicion was a defective plug connection. After checking the air filter and fuel lines, the issue was identified as a loose and corroded connector on one of the fuel injectors. Cleaning and securing the connection resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my Honda Clarity (don't remember the exact year). The symptoms were almost identical: poor mileage, sluggish acceleration, and occasional stalling. I remember spending ages checking for air leaks and messing around with the fuel system, thinking it was something major. Turned out to be a simple, but elusive, electrical issue. Have you checked the cable connections and plugs related to the fuel injectors themselves? Any sign of corrosion or damage there?

Thanks for the quick reply! You mentioned an electrical issue – was it a specific connector or wiring harness that you remember? Was it easy to spot once you knew where to look? I'm fairly comfortable poking around with a multimeter, but I don't want to start ripping things apart without a better idea of where to focus my attention. Any tips on what to look for?

Okay, so I racked my brain and looked through some old repair notes. It was a faulty connection to one of the fuel injectors. What happened was the connection was loose, causing intermittent misfires. The mechanic checked all of them and found it straight away. Honestly, unless you're super confident with electrical diagnostics, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic. It could save you a lot of time and potential headaches. The cost should be minimal.

Thanks a million for the advice! I took your suggestion and brought it into a mechanic I trust. Turns out you were spot on! It was a loose and corroded connector on one of the fuel injectors. They cleaned it up, secured the connection, and the Clarity is running like new again. The final bill was only 95€! I really appreciate you sharing your experience – it saved me a ton of time and probably a lot of money trying to diagnose it myself.
