Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't see any oil leakage, but I'll check again. The workshop didn't say the exact oil type, just that it was related to the transfer case oil wear fault. Should I ask them for more details?

Given the symptoms and the 'transfer case oil wear fault' diagnosis, plus your mileage, have them really check the transfer case's internal parts. In my case, it was more than just an oil issue, so I'd suggest a deeper look.

Thanks for the help. I followed your advice and had the workshop do a detailed inspection. They confirmed there were defective gears in the transfer case. The repair, with parts and labor, cost about 330€. Your insights were really helpful.

I also drive a Clarity. Your description sounds familiar. Have you seen any oil leakage around the transfer case? That could mean mechanical wear. Do you know what gear oil they're using or recommend for the oil change?
