Clarity transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Honda Clarity electric is experiencing transmission issues, including unresponsive paddle shifters, unclean shifting, slipping, and grinding noises during gear changes. The gearbox is stuck in emergency mode, and an error code is stored, suggesting a possible transmission control unit malfunction. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the transmission control unit, costing around 1000€, and it is advised to have the vehicle checked promptly to prevent further damage.

Thanks. I didn't record the error code exactly, but are you saying you experienced identical symptoms, and it was indeed a transmission control unit?

Okay, so, not identical, but close enough that it made me wince when I read your post! In my case, it turned out to be the transmission control unit. Basically, the car's computer brain for shifting went haywire. Cost me about 1000€ to get sorted at a workshop. I'd strongly suggest getting yours checked out ASAP; driving it in emergency mode could make things worse. Better safe than sorry, right?

I appreciate your advice. It seems I will need to schedule an appointment with a workshop and prepare for a potentially costly repair. I will post the final resolution for future reference.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I've got a Clarity too, and some of that rings a bell. I had a somewhat similar issue a while back – shifting felt totally off, and I swear I heard some weird noises too. Was afraid it was the end of the road for my gearbox. When you say error code, do you know what it was? That could be a clue. Seriously hoping it's not a full transmission replacement.
