Clio immobilizer issue

My 2005 Renault Clio with a gasoline engine won't start. It sometimes fires up for a second then dies. The error memory shows an immobilizer issue. Could it be key programming or something more serious? It's got about 102884 km on the clock.

I had a similar problem with my Clio. Does the security light flash when you try to start it? If it does, it could be the immobilizer. Sounds like your key might not be talking to the car properly.

The security light is flashing when I try to crank it! So, you reckon it's a key programming issue then? Is there any way to bypass the immobilizer?

I wouldn't mess with bypassing the immobilizer, sounds risky. It does sound like the key, but could be something else ignition control related. Best bet is probably getting it to a workshop where they can re-program the key or diagnose it properly. I ended up having to do that myself.

Thanks for the advice. The key programming was indeed the problem. An auto-electrician sorted it for 45€, so I'm back on the road.
