Clio PTC Heater Problem

Experiencing an issue with my 2001 Renault Clio, diesel engine. Trouble with the PTC heater. Poor engine running during cold start, error stored, higher fuel consumption. Local chap suggested the electric auxiliary heater is defective. Could this be it?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Clio, think it was the heating element too. Does it feel like the car's struggling to warm up on colder days? Like trying to run through treacle?

Indeed, that's an apt description! It's almost as if the car is fighting against itself until it reaches operating temperature, especially when the weather is colder. Were the symptoms you experienced identical to mine? What did the garage diagnose?

Absolutely, almost identical! My mechanic mentioned something about the PTC heater being faulty, and told me that it wasn't getting enough power to warm up properly. I'd suggest going to a workshop and getting it checked out, as it sounds like it might be the same issue. They quoted me 350€ initially!

Your experience and advice have been invaluable. I will follow your recommendation and take it to a workshop for a thorough diagnosis. The workshop found a faulty PTC heater, the repair cost was 350€. Thanks again!
