CMAX EGR Valve Issue

I'm writing to ask about a potential issue with my Ford CMAX, 2016, diesel. It has 161154 km. Recently, I've noticed reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, smoke during acceleration, rough engine running, increased fuel consumption, jerking during acceleration, and a loud hissing sound when accelerating. I suspect it may be the EGR valve. Any insights or advice?

Sounds like EGR valve to me. I had similar symptoms on my CMAX, especially the hissing and smoke. Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks? Those can mess with the EGR system too.

Thank you for the prompt response. Could you please elaborate on what I should specifically look for when inspecting vacuum leaks, and how that might relate to the EGR valve malfunction?

Well, any split or disconnected hoses could cause a vacuum leak. If the EGR valve isn't getting the right vacuum, it won't open or close properly, messing with your emissions and performance. Honestly, it's a pain to diagnose without the right tools. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it properly checked out.

I appreciate your input. It seems prudent to seek professional assessment. I took it to the shop and the EGR valve was indeed defective. The repair cost 355€. Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
