CMAX immobilizer issue

My 2003 Ford CMAX, gasoline engine, is having immobilizer issues. The engine cranks but won't start, or starts briefly then dies. Error code present. Has anyone else experienced key programming problems? The anti-theft system seems to be malfunctioning.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my CMAX. Same symptoms – engine refusing to cooperate. Did you try the spare key? I was wondering if it's a key issue.

Tried the spare, same problem. Just a brief glimmer of hope, then nothing. Was yours definitely a key programming problem? What did you do to fix it?

Yep, sounds identical. The key programming was corrupted. I wouldn't try to fix it yourself unless you know what you're doing. A workshop with the right equipment to recode the key is the best solution. Otherwise you will end up in a worse situation.

Took it to a local garage, they connected it, and the key programming was the problem. 45€ later, it's running smoothly again. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, saved me a lot of pointless work!
