Cobalt Exhaust Flap Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Chevrolet Cobalt is experiencing issues with its exhaust flaps, leading to increased noise and an error code. The primary suspect is a defective exhaust flap motor, but it's advised to check the wiring and connections for any electrical issues. If the flap is stuck, it could affect engine performance and cause exhaust blockage, making it important to address the problem promptly. Ultimately, a workshop visit confirmed the defective exhaust flap, and it was repaired.

Cheers for the quick reply. Wiring and connections look solid, no obvious damage. If the flap is indeed stuck, would that also impact engine performance, or would it mainly just be the noise? Just trying to gauge the urgency of getting this sorted.

Stuck flaps will definitely mess with engine performance eventually, potentially causing exhaust blockage if it's fully closed all the time. The noise alone justifies a look, but performance dips make it pressing. Probably time to visit the workshop.

For those interested: it was indeed a defective exhaust flap. Workshop visit confirmed it. Repair cost me 190€. Thanks for the advice, appreciated!

Sounds like a defective exhaust flap is the prime suspect, especially with those symptoms. Is the flap stuck open, maybe? That could explain the noise and error code. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the flap motor to rule out a simpler electrical issue?
