Thanks for sharing that detailed information about the wiring harness issue. My Caliber had very similar symptoms and I was concerned about the temperature sensor replacement cost. Would you mind sharing what you paid for the complete repair? Also curious if youve experienced any related issues since the fix was done. My shops quoting a pretty wide range for the work and Im trying to figure out if its reasonable.

Great news, after getting my Journey fixed, the sensor diagnostics showed everything was working perfectly. The outside temperature sensor repair was actually simpler than expected. The shop found a faulty cable connection that just needed proper cleaning and reseating, plus a minor plug adjustment. Total cost came to 95€ which seems fair for the diagnostic work and fixing the connection. No temperature-related issues since the repair. All systems, AC, washer nozzles, and mirror heating, are working like new. The vehicle temperature sensor now gives accurate readings in all weather conditions. Your quote might vary depending on what they find, but if its just a connection issue like mine was, the cost should be similar. The key is getting proper sensor diagnostics done first to pinpoint the exact problem rather than just replacing parts.

I finally took my Caliber to the shop last week after reading about your Journey repair. Turns out you were spot on, it was a corroded wiring connection causing the car temperature sensor problems. The mechanic found similar issues with the harness connectors near the front end. Total repair came to 120€, which included cleaning all connections, testing the vehicle temperature sensor, and recalibrating the system. The outside temperature sensor itself was actually fine, just like in your case. Been about a week now and everything is working perfectly, AC kicks in normally, washer nozzles spray fine, and the mirror heating works again. Really glad I asked here first instead of just agreeing to a full sensor replacement. The mechanic mentioned these connection issues are pretty common but often misdiagnosed as complete sensor failures. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with the sensor diagnostics suggestion.

Had the same symptoms on a Dodge Journey 2013 diesel with similar mileage. The outside temperature sensor malfunction turned out to be more than just a faulty component. The main issue was corroded wiring harness connectors near the front bumper, where the vehicle temperature sensor connects to the main system. The sensor itself was functioning, but poor connections caused incorrect temperature readings, triggering multiple system shutdowns as a safety measure. The repair involved: Complete inspection of the wiring harness, Cleaning and resealing connector points, Sensor calibration after repair, Testing all affected systems (AC, washer fluid, mirrors) This was a serious issue since incorrect temperature readings can affect multiple vehicle systems. Without proper sensor input, the vehicle computer defaults to safety mode, disabling climate-related functions. Worth getting it checked soon, driving with malfunctioning temperature sensors can lead to more significant problems, especially with climate control systems. The repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment for proper sensor calibration after fixing the connections.
