Corolla Crankshaft Sensor Issue

Sounds familiar. My 2018 Opel Astra had the same symptoms: check engine light, reduced power, and bad fuel economy. The error code was a crankshaft/camshaft correlation problem. Turned out to be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Before replacing it, check the wiring and connectors to the sensor. A loose or corroded connection can cause those symptoms.

Good call on the wiring, hadn't thought of that! Where's the crankshaft sensor located on these Corollas? I've been looking, but it's so crammed in there. Also, did your Astra stall, or just run rough?

On my Astra, the crankshaft sensor was near the lower front of the engine block, close to the crankshaft pulley. I'm not familiar with the Corolla's layout, but that's a common location. My Astra never fully stalled, it just ran rough and lacked power, especially when accelerating. Given your symptoms and the reference value error, get it diagnosed at a workshop if you can't find wiring issues. It could be timing chain wear, but the sensor is most likely.

You were right! My mechanic confirmed it was the crankshaft sensor. Replaced it, and the Corolla is back to normal. Cost 340€, all in. Thanks!
