Corolla Hybrid Fuel Pump Failure

I'm having trouble with my 2019 Toyota Corolla hybrid at 157023 km. The check engine light is on, the engine randomly stalls when idling, and I've noticed a significant drop in power when accelerating. I scanned the codes, and it points towards a defective fuel volume regulator. I suspect it might be a high pressure pump issue. Has anyone else run into this? Fuel economy has gone to pot, too.

I had similar symptoms in my Corolla: reduced engine power, stalling, and the check engine light. Have you checked the fuel injection system thoroughly? In my case, it turned out to be related to a faulty sensor affecting the fuel mixture.

Interesting! Which sensor was causing the problem for you? I've been focusing on the high pressure pump since the code mentioned the fuel volume regulator. Was your fuel efficiency also affected?

It was the fuel pressure sensor, causing the fuel injection to misfire. And yes, my fuel efficiency was terrible before I replaced it. Given your symptoms and the code, it's best to have a workshop diagnose the high pressure pump and the entire fuel system properly. A defective pump can definitely trigger those issues.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on about the fuel pump. Turns out the high pressure pump was indeed defective and caused the fuel volume regulator to fail. The repair cost me 1510€, but at least she's running like new again. Appreciate the help!
