Corolla Oxygen Sensor Defect

My 2000 Toyota Corolla, diesel engine, is showing some issues at 50759 km. The check engine light is on, and error memory indicates a problem. I'm also seeing higher fuel consumption. Suspect the oxygen sensor, maybe a defective cable or plug connection.

I had similar symptoms on my Corolla, though I have a later model. An automotive sensor issue can definitely cause those problems. Have you checked the exhaust system for any visible damage? A faulty exhaust sensor can affect the catalytic converter as well.

No visible exhaust system damage. You're saying a bad exhaust sensor is common on Corollas? Worth checking the sensor before further diagnosis, then?

Yes, confirming that the aged oxygen sensor can trigger those errors. Given the symptoms and mileage, it's a likely culprit, and a defective cable or plug connection is probable. Workshop visit is advisable.

Thanks. It turned out to be a defective cable to the sensor, as suspected. Repair cost was 95€. Problem solved.
