Corolla Tire Pressure ABS and Steering Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota Corolla Hybrid was experiencing issues with the tire pressure light, ABS lamp, and vibrating steering, making it difficult to steer. The initial concern was a faulty tire sensor, but the symptoms suggested potential problems with the wheel speed sensors or ABS module. After checking the valve stems for damage, it was discovered that a defective valve was causing incorrect tire pressure readings, triggering the warnings. Replacing the valve and rebalancing the tires resolved the issues.

Okay, thanks for the quick reply! I'll check the tire wear. When you say valve stems, do you mean the little thingy you put the air hose on? I did look at them briefly, but didn't really know what I was looking for. What kind of damage should I be looking for on the valve stem? And if it is the ABS module, is that a super expensive fix?

Yep, the valve stem is the 'little thingy' where you add air. Look for cracks, brittleness, or any signs of corrosion. Sometimes they can develop tiny leaks that are hard to spot immediately. The fact that the ABS light is on with the tire pressure warning and steering issues still points to something more than just tire pressure. It's like having a headache and a stomach ache at the same time; it's probably not just one thing causing both. Given all the symptoms, I'd highly recommend taking it to a reputable mechanic to get a proper diagnosis. It's best not to guess with ABS and steering issues.

Took it to the shop, and it turned out to be a defective valve in one of the tires. Apparently, it was messing with the tire pressure readings and triggering all sorts of warnings. They replaced the valve, rebalanced the tires, and now everything is back to normal. Total cost was 280€, which is way better than a new ABS module! Thanks a million for your help and advice. Seriously saved me a ton of worry!

That sounds like more than just low tire pressure. The ABS light coming on along with steering issues suggests a potential problem with the wheel speed sensors or even the ABS module itself. A faulty tire pressure sensor could trigger the ABS light in some cases, but the vibrating steering wheel points to something more mechanical. Are all your tires wearing evenly? Also, when you inflated the tires, did you happen to check the valve stems for any signs of damage or leaks? A defective valve could cause slow leaks that trigger the warning light.
