Corolla transmission issues

I've got a 2016 Toyota Corolla with a gasoline engine, and I'm experiencing some transmission issues. Mileage is at 36147 km. Specifically, the paddle shifters are non-functional, the gearbox is slipping, and shifting is unclean. I'm also hearing grinding noises during gear changes, and the paddle shifters have a very slow response time. The gearbox seems to be stuck in emergency mode. I pulled the codes and found errors pointing towards a defective transmission control unit. Anyone else run into this?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Corolla. Shifting issues, grinding, and eventually, limp mode. Have you checked the TCU harness for corrosion or loose connections? That was my first thought, but it didn't solve my issue in the long run.

I did check the harness, and it seems fine. No visible corrosion or loose connections. Did replacing the TCU resolve the issue for you?

Yeah, replacing the TCU was the ultimate fix. All those symptoms you mentioned? Gone. Cost me about 1000€ all in. But honestly, with those error codes and the symptoms you're describing, I'd advise getting it diagnosed by a qualified workshop before throwing parts at it. Could save you some headaches, especially if it is not just the TCU.

Thanks, I appreciate the insight. I was leaning towards a defective control unit based on the error codes, but your experience confirms it. I'll take it to a shop for a proper diagnosis and get the TCU replaced. The repair cost is on par with what I expected. Thanks again for the help.
