Corsa Engine Knocking
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Vauxhall Corsa was experiencing engine knocking, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, and smoke emission. These symptoms were linked to deposits in the combustion chamber, causing pre-ignition or detonation. The recommended solution was to have the engine checked and cleaned by a professional, which resolved the issue.

Piston slap? Knock sensor? I have no idea what those things are! How would I even check those? Is 'detonation' the same as 'engine knock'? Is it safe to drive?

Detonation, knocking and pre-ignition are related. Basically uncontrolled combustion, caused by things like carbon deposits. Piston slap is a similar noise. I wouldn't recommend driving it much. Best bet is to take it to a workshop to get it checked out, especially if you're not familiar with engine components.

I took it to the shop, and you were spot on! It was deposits in the combustion chamber. They cleaned it all out, replaced a few things, and it cost me 425€. Runs like a dream now. Thanks again for the help!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Corsa. Could be deposits in the combustion chamber causing pre-ignition, or detonation. Does it sound like piston slap? Maybe check your knock sensor too.
