Corsa starting trouble

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2010 Vauxhall Corsa (gasoline engine). It's got about 120,000 km on it. Recently, it's been really struggling to start, and sometimes stalls when idling. The check engine light is also on. I've noticed rough running and what seems like higher fuel consumption too. I checked the error memory and there's a code stored. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues?

Good day. Based on the symptoms you have described – difficulty starting, stalling at idle, check engine light illumination, rough engine operation, elevated fuel consumption, and a stored error code – a defective fuel pump is a strong possibility. Before considering the pump itself, however, a prudent first step would be to meticulously inspect the cable and plug connections associated with the fuel pump. A loose or corroded connection can often mimic the symptoms of a failing pump and is a far more economical potential solution. Have you checked these connections?

Thanks for the tip! I haven't specifically checked the cable and plug connections yet. Could you tell me where exactly I should be looking for these connections? I'm not a car mechanics expert, so any pointers would be appreciated.

Certainly. The fuel pump is typically located inside the fuel tank. Access is often gained by removing the rear seat or via an access panel in the trunk. Once you have located the fuel pump assembly, carefully examine the electrical connector for any signs of corrosion, damage, or looseness. Ensure that the connector is firmly seated. Before undertaking any work on the fuel system, it is imperative that you disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to mitigate the risk of electrical shock or fire. Given your self-professed intermediate level of mechanical expertise, if you are at all uncomfortable with this procedure, I would strongly recommend entrusting the diagnosis and repair to a qualified automotive technician. This will ensure both your safety and the proper resolution of the issue.

Thank you so much for the advice! It was indeed a defective cable or plug connection, as you suggested. I took it to a workshop and they fixed it for 95€. Appreciate your help!
